Justin Timberlake defends Miley Cyrus' performance, cites ex-girlfriend Britney Spears as also putting on risque show at VMA's

Many people have had their opinions on Miley Cryus’ widely discussed MTV Video Music Awards performance on Sunday night, and now Justin Timberlake is weighing in.

Timberlake defended the former Hannah Montana star’s sexually charged performance of “We Can’t Stop,” saying “what did you guys expect?”

The Michael Jackson Vanguard award recipient told Fresh 102.7’s Jim Douglas of the backlash, "Listen, man, you know, it's the VMAs. What did you guys expect? I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she's young. She's letting everybody know that she's growing up."

Us Weekly reports he continued, "I just think it's the VMAs. It's not like she did it at the Grammys. Let her do her thing, you know?"

He also noted that risqué performances at the annual event are “not an uncommon thing.” He even cited his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears’ prior performance.

"Madonna: wedding suit, humping the stage. Britney: strip tease. This is not an uncommon thing," he said. "I actually thought all the bears were really cool,” he said.

TMZ notes he also cited his favorite part of the show was Will Smith’s family’s reaction to Cyrus’ performance.
