Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner appeared before the Assembly Judiciary Committee on SB606 on Tuesday, urging California lawmakers to pass a law that sees tougher consequences on paparazzi who invade the personal space of celebrities and their young children.
Berry, currently pregnant with her second child and first with fiancé Olivier Martinez, told legislators her daughter, Nahla, 5, fears to go to school because of the paparazzi harassing her.
CBS News notes Garner got emotional when describing how the photographers follow her and her three small children with actor Ben Affleck every time they step out.
“I love my kids. They're beautiful and sweet and innocent, and I don't want a gang of shouting, arguing, lawbreaking photographers who camp out everywhere we are all day, every day, to continue traumatizing my kids,” Garner said, NBCNews reports. "They have a bounty on their heads every day.”
The bill, which would change the definition of “harassment” as taking a picture or recording a child without their parent’s permission, passed unanimously and the next step is going to the appropriations committee.
