Bruce Willis, who starred in one of the best action movies ever made, has reportedly said in an interview that he is bored with being a hero in action movies. It’s just the latest sign from the Die Hard actor that he’s looking for a chance to change his career path.
The U.K. Mirror published excerpts of Willis’ interview with the Spanish magazine XLS, in which he is quoted as saying that “Explosions are one of the most boring parts of my job.”
Willis continued, “When you have seen a few fireballs, its not exciting anymore. I know part of my audience enjoys the explosions, but to be honest, I’m a bit bored of it now.”
“I am very clear with who I am,” the actor said. “I work in all sorts of films, but the action movies are the ones that generate the most revenue. I like to earn lots of money from those, but I do all types: small productions, megaprojects, medium sized, even science fiction.”
The Mirror reports that Willis does mention that he dropped out of Expendables 3 over a salary dispute, but he said that he wasn’t excited to see the big paychecks. “Not because I am used to it, but because I only think about money in moments like this, when another person mentions that I am a rich man. I’m not someone who spends the whole day counting bank notes,” he said.
Willis barely did any international press appearances for his most recent film, Red 2. In July, he showed that he really wasn’t interested in promoting the film when he appeared in Britain’s Magic 105.4 and commented that he’s “just selling the film now.”
Of course, Willis was in the headlines last week for turning down Expendables 3. The actor has shown an interest in branching out beyond the action film genre recently, even appearing in Wes Anderson’s latest comedy, Moonrise Kingdom. But the next time we see him on the big screen, it will be in the sequel to Sin City in August 2014.
