Tom Cruise’s new sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill has received a new name - Edge of Tomorrow. The news was announced just as Warner Bros. confirmed that the studio will host a special panel at Comic-Con for the film this weekend.
Cruise’s official website Twitter page confirmed the news on Monday and also shared the first image with Cruise and co-star Emily Blunt. “Yes, we can confirm! Edge of Tomorrow is the NEW title for the formally titled All You Need Is Kill!,” the tweet from Cruise’s team read.
The image shows Blunt and Cruise wearing giant mech-suits, which the site claims weighed 80 pounds each.
Warner Bros. also used Facebook to confirm that the studio’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday in San Diego will feature the first footage from the film.
Edge of Tomorrow was previously scheduled for release on March 2014, but was recently rescheduled for June 6, 2014. It is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s book, which was titled All You Need Is Kill, and Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) is directing.
The film is set in a future where earth has been largely decimated by aliens. Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a soldier sent on an impossible mission. He dies instantly, but somehow he gets thrown back in the past and learns from his mistakes each time he attempts to stop the aliens. Blunt plays Rita Vrataski. Bill Paxton also stars.
This is Cruise’s second straight science fiction film. He previously starred in this year’s Oblivion.
