George Zimmerman Juror B37 no longer writing book after CNN interview and scathing online criticism

While the face and name of Juror B37 on the George Zimmerman jury is still unknown, this particular juror has been the most vocal since the six woman all found Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. B37 had signed a book deal just hours after the verdict and was on CNN Monday night. But after scathing online criticism, she has backed out of the book deal.

After it was announced that B37 had signed a deal with a literary agent, Gawker posted her voir dire, when she was being interviewed by the prosecution and defense as a potential juror. During the testimony, she said she hates the media, doesn’t watch the news or listen to the radio.

She also refers to Martin’s death as “an unfortunate incident that happened” and refers to him as “a boy of color” when asked to describe the 17-year-old.

After that, Sharlene Martin of Martin Literary Management LLC sent a statement to BuzzFeed confirming that B37 backed out of the book deal. That statement reads:

“I realize it was necessary for our jury to be sequestered in order to protest our verdict from unfair outside influence, but that isolation shielded me from the depth of pain that exists among the general public over every aspect of this case. The potential book was always intended to be a respectful observation of the trial from my and my husband’s perspectives solely and it was to be an observation that our ‘system’ of justice can get so complicated that it creates a conflict with our ‘spirit’ of justice.”

As B37’s interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper aired, people expressed shock over what they heard her say. B37 said that she had “no doubt” that Zimmerman feared for his life. She also said that she believed it was Zimmerman screaming on the 911 call.

“I think George Zimmerman is a man whose heart was in the right place, but just got displaced by the vandalism in the neighborhoods, and wanting to catch these people so badly that he went above and beyond what he really should have done,” she said. “But I think his heart was in the right place. It just went terribly wrong.”
