Amanda Bynes is not going to face charges for starting a fire on someone’s driveway Monday night. The troubled actress has been in a hospital under a 5150 psychiatric hold since the incident, but officials have reportedly decided that she needs professional help more than additional criminal charges hanging over her.
Bynes started the fire at a home in Thousand Oaks, California, where she grew up. This was just a night after she was accused of trespassing at a retirement home.
The homeowner, Bonnie Braaten, latter told Us Weekly that she coulnd’t understand what Bynes was trying to do. Her neighbor, Bruno Corsi, helped put out the fire and saw other teenagers trying to help, all while Bynes sat on the sidewalk and watched.
Another witness of the event, Andrew Liverpool, told The New York Daily News that he spotted Bynes running after a dog that was soaked in gas and she wasn’t wearing her pants. Apparently, Bynes tried to stop the fire with her pants. He said that Bynes was wearing her blonde wig.
“I pulled over and ran over and she was pantsless by this time, running after her dog," Liverpool said. “I asked her, 'Where's your garden hose?' I thought it was her house at first.” He adds that Bynes said she was not hurt.
Bynes will not be charged with a crime for the incident, reports TMZ. The site reports that police and prosecutors believe it was an episode rooted in mental illness and that she needs professional help.
Meanwhile, sources for The LA Times said that Bynes’ parents are thinking of conservatorship to oversee her lifestyle.
Bynes is still facing criminal charges for a DUI in LA and for her bong-throwing incident in New York.
