Can’t get enough Adam Sandler? After scoring an animated hit with Hotel Transylvania last year, the actor is going back to the supernatural with Hello Ghost, teaming up with director Chris Columbus.
The comedy will be produced at Universal through Columbus’ 1492 Productions and Sandler’s Happy Madison. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is a remake of a Korean comedy about a man who tries to commit suicide, but is followed by four ghosts he can’t shake off until he grants them each a wish.
Karen Croner, who wrote the Tina Fey/Paul Rudd comedy Admission, will write the script for the remake.
Kim Yeong-tak wrote and directed the original, notes Variety. It was produced by CJ Entertainment, which has signed on to co-produce the American version.
Columbus is still trying to make his first directorial effort since 2010’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians. THR notes that he’s in talks for a project called Pixels. The director is also known for helming the first two Harry Potter movies.
As for Sandler, he’s searching for a new live action hit after That’s My Boy flopped last summer. He did provide the voice for the main character in Hotel Transylvania, which was a surprise hit. Next month, his Grown Ups 2 hits theaters and he’s filming Blended with Drew Barrymore.
There’s no word on when Hello Ghost will start filming.
