The nominees for the 40th annual Daytime Entertainment Emmys were announced this morning and CBS dominated with 50 nominations in total. The network got a significant boost from The Young And The Restless, which earned 23 nominations alone.
Deadline reports that all of the soap operas that are still on the air were nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series Category. These include CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young And the Restless, NBC’s Days of Our Lives and ABC’s General Hospital. Since the last episodes of ABC’s One Life To Live aired in 2012, it was also nominated. The online edition of OLTL and All My Children will be eligible next year.
CBS’ 50 nods beat our PBS’ 44 total nominations, notes The Hollywood Reporter. ABC had 38 nominations, Nickelodeon had 36 and NBC had 25.
After The Young and the Restless, General Hospital, scored 19 nominations for its 50th anniversary season, while Sesame Street and Days of Our Lives each had 17.
The Ellen Degeneres Show will compete for Outstanding Talk Show with Live With Kelly & Michael, The Talk and The View. Katie, The Doctors and Dr. Oz are up for the outstanding talk show/informative award.
Among the nominations for Sesame Street is one for Kevin Clash, who ended up resigning due to accusations of a sexual relationship with an underage boy. He is up for outstanding performer in a children’s series against Jeff Corwin (Ocean Mysteries) and his Sesame Street colleagues Joey Mazzarino and David Rudman.
