The new Star Trek meets old Star Trek in a new commercial for Audi, which features actors Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy, the two actors who have played Spock.
The ad for the Audi S7 starts with Quinto and Nimoy playing a game of chess. They decide to have a golfing challenge. “Whoever gets to the club last buys lunch,” Quinto says. “Stand by to have your wallet emptied by a tractor beam,” Mimoy replies.
During Nimoy’s ride, the veteran actor sings a bit of his “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” song, notes The LA Times.
Quinto does win the race to the club, but Nimoy uses the Vulcan nerve pinch to stop him. That’s one of several Star Trek references throughout the commercial for fans to pick out.
USA Today notes that at the end of the commercial, there’s a cameo for the TTS, Audi’s driverless car, which impresses both Quinto and Nimoy.
