7. "Love Me Tender"
“Love Me Tender” was written for the 1956 movie of the same name, starring Elvis. The tune is that of the Civil War ballad, “Aura Lee,” which was in the public domain. The song became a gold record before even being released when Elvis performed it on The Ed Sullivan Show a month before the movie’s release and RCA received 1 million advance orders the following day.
