Farrow moved to journalism after leaving government and wrote for several different publications. He investigated accusations of sexual misconduct by Harvey Weinstein and wrote an article detailing his conclusions, which was published in the New Yorker in October 2017, less than a week after the New York Times published the findings of their own investigation. It was the allegations against Weinstein that allowed survivors of sexual misconduct to speak out against other entertainment industry figureheads, which led to using the hashtag #MeToo to unify support. And thus a movement was born.

Eric Schneiderman, the New York State attorney general who championed women’s rights and played a major role in the #MeToo movement — leading the civil rights lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein –– abruptly resigned on Monday night, hours after @ronanfarrow and Jane Mayer reported in The New Yorker that four women had accused him of physically assaulting them.
