Game Show Revivals that need to happen soon

Game Show Revivals

9. Couch Potatoes

There are millions of real-life couch potatoes in America who have a love for classic television and television-based trivia. That is why a revival of the 80s game show Couch Potatoes would be perfect for today's culture. It seems like there are more channels today devoted to old TV shows than ever before, so maybe that would be an ideal spot for this fun-filled trip down television memory lane. Couch Potatoes only lasted for 100 episodes in it's original 1989 run, which a shame because the show offered a format that any game show fan would love, a buzzer-beating match-up between two teams during the main game, celebrity guests arriving to ask trivia questions, and a fast-paced bonus round.

Hosted by Marc Summers, who was also hosting Nickelodeon's Double Dare at the same time, two teams of three so-called television trivia experts competed to accumulate the most "ratings points" to win $1,000 and the opportunity to play the "Channel Roulette" bonus round for an additional $5,000. Since the game originally aired in the 80s, the shows highlighted throughout the trivia questions were about television from that time and before. However, with a Couch Potatoes revival, many great, and not-so-great, television shows from the 90s onward can be asked about, which would attract viewers since there seems to be a 90s resurgence in today's popular culture.

With it's vibrant living room set and man cave-esque wall of televisions, many viewers would definitely be drawn in by the comforts of the game. Plus, without daunting history, literature or science questions being featured, those watching would most likely enjoy the trivia aspect of this game and feel encouraged to shout out the answers. In the end, it's a television game show about television ... what's more fun than that!?

Brad Fact: During a special Game Show Week of Couch Potatoes, legendary game show personalities such as hosts Wink Martindale and Peter Marshall, as well as original model of The Price Is Right Janice Pennington, stopped by to ask questions about their respective careers and shows.
