5. The Price of a Laugh! (The Price Is Right)
Out of all ten game show blunders featured on the list, this is the most recent, originally occurring only three years ago. This is also the only Price Is Right blunder out of the three on the list to feature Drew Carey as host and the only one that happened because of a model mishap. For those of you wondering why this blunder isn't number one of the list, as you've seen with blunder number six, answers on The Price Is Right have mistakenly been revealed on the show before. The only reason why this moment was so hyped was because of social media and the power of the internet. To be honest, there really isn't anything that special regarding this moment, but because the majority of the population have never seen other Price Is Right blunders before, this became a viral sensation and a must-see clip.
Contestant Andrea was playing the classic pricing game "Five Price Tags," which was first played in 1972, the show's inaugural year. The game is very simple. Andrea will be shown five car prices, one of which is the actual retail price of the car she is playing for. She will then be shown four items, each with a price attached. For each of the four items, Andrea must determine if the price listed is true or false. For every correct guess, Andrea gets one price tag pick. Her goal is to pick the price tag that has the price of the car written on it.
Andrea did extremely well in the true/false portion of the game. She got three correct, which means three price tag picks, a feat not accomplished by many "Five Price Tags" players. The first price picked was $19,849. Model Manuela Arbeláez revealed the price tag and the word "No" was underneath it, meaning it was not the price of the car. At this point, the classic Price Is Right buzzer sounded and Andrea now had two picks remaining ... or so she thought because here is where the blunder occurred.
Manuela, hearing the buzzer go off, instinctively thought the game was over. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Thinking Andrea lost, she starts revealing the other price tags in search of the "Win" slip under one of them. It happened to be under the second price tag, $21,960, which was the first one she pulled after the buzzer sounded.
Drew Carey then lets out a big "ohhhhhh" and starts laughing. When Drew started saying "oh," Manuela thought he was doing that because Andrea was so close to finding the correct price tag. However, she quickly realized the "oh" was because she mistakenly revealed a price tag when she shouldn't have and the one she revealed was the winning price tag.
Manuela tried to hide the evidence by putting the price tag back in its place, but the damage had already been done. Drew then tells Andrea that Manuela just gave her a car and the theme music starts playing to the shocking sounds of the audience. Speaking of the audience, when they were shown on camera after the mishap occurred, it looked like the audience had no idea what was going on and were just clapping through the motions. Manuela, on the other hand, was hiding behind the "Five Price Tags" set piece. To this day, whenever "Five Price Tags" is played and Manuela is on price tag reveal duty, there is usually a snicker or remark made by Drew that relates back to this moment.
