The great thing about Train's music is, even with a song containing more meaningful lyrics, there is still a captivating rock beat that underlays the track. This is certainly the case for the number eight ranked song, "Calling All Angels."
"Drink Up" and "Mermaid" are both light-hearted songs with lyrics to match. One is about having a great time at a party and the other is about a beautiful, fictional sea creature. However, "Calling All Angels" is about connecting with Godly figures. This song could mean different things to different people, but there is a time in everyone's life where they could use the help of an angel, and this song hits that premise.
Instead of using ballad sounding lyrics like "I need a sign to let me know your here" and "I need to know that things are gonna look up" in a slower song, Train was smart to use a contemporary vibe to convey the lyrical message. The use of guitars and drums in this song were so smart as they weren't overpowering, but instead provided the right foundation needed to carry the song.
