Depression: 20 celebrities who have lived and died with it

Chris Evans

Chris Evans, mostly known for his role as Captain America in the Avenger series, but also has made great appearances in movies such as Not Another Teen Movie and Scottie Pilgrim vs The World, almost turned down the role of Captain America which transformed his career due to anxiety, a form of depression.

Evan spoke about battling anxiety and depression as he was deciding what to do if he took the role since he would be contractually obligated to work in at least six movies with Marvel Studios.

Evans stated, “Normally you do one of those movies at a time and if that movie hits and is a success, your life changes. The worry was if this movie hits and there is a lifestyle change and I don’t react well to it, I don’t have the opportunity — the luxury — to say ‘You know guys, I’m good.’”

Of course, he detailed the pressure from the contract to appear in six movies over ten years, which he had thought was a "Scary loss of control."

Despite his struggle, he's able to keep a positive mindset, saying, “The times that I felt my best are the moments I’ve been able to pull the plug and say ‘Chris, shhh. And it’s not quitting. It’s not giving up. It’s not washing your hands of the thought. It’s rising above it. It’s operating on a separate plane. You can’t dissect why that works because the reason it works doesn’t speak the same language that the brain speaks,” according to comicbook.com.
