Spring premieres - 5 must-watch new shows on primetime TV

2. Rise (NBC)

Take what you've heard about this being a knockoff of Glee and dump that nonsense in the trash. If "From Jason Katims, executive producer and showrunner of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller" didn't make you watch, there are plenty more reasons to watch this drama about drama in a small, forgotten steel town where Friday Night Football overshadows everything and the issues off stage are better than the ones onstage.

It also has Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother) and Rosie Perez (Pure, Bounty Hunter) together on television.  It sounds weird, like pickles and ice cream, but it just feels so good!

The show isn't hiding behind euphemisms or questions about being a teen. From gender transitioning to self-discovery, teen pregnancy to parenting a parent and everything in between even the characters who were in the background find a place in your heart as the story unfolds.
