9. Attend a parade or memorial service
It is customary for flags to be lowered to the half-mast position to remember the more than one million men and women who gave up their lives in the armed service. At noon, the flag is supposed to be raised to the full-staff position as a symbolic gesture of the living to take up the fight for liberty and ensure that the deaths of these men and women were not in vain. Many local municipalities observe the holiday with a parade or memorial service, so just stop by for a brief time to recognize and honor their service. Remember to bring your flags!
