8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Spielberg's first sci-fi isn't as memorable as the greats like Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it was a well-directed story of panic and the unknown. Richard Dreyfuss gave one of his best performances. Plus, the film had an incredible third act.
