Best known for her role as Sophie from Orange is the New Black, Laverne has made landmarks within in the trans community as an actress, model and activist. In addition, she was the first transgender woman to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and was also the first transgender woman to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine.
