7. Lucky (September 29)
If nothing more, Lucky made us pause and consider the spirituality of something as simple as a tortoise. Lucky marks Harry Dean Stanton’s final role, as he passed away earlier this year. Stanton plays an aging atheist, one who lives the same routine day after day after day. He’s forced to confront his beliefs, however, in his old age. Lucky is slow and deeply sentimental, creating the perfect swan song for Stanton to go out on.
