3. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
George A. Romero, almost single-handily, invented the zombie film as we know it today with Night of the Living Dead in 1968 and then completely re-invented it in 1978 with Dawn of the Dead.
Since the events that took place in the farmhouse during Night, the zombie epidemic has grown bigger and bigger. This time we're stuck with an entirely new cast of survivors, all hiding out in a deserted (or is it...?) shopping mall. Even though the film is nearly forty years old at this point, it completely holds up to modern day and is one of the best films that Romero ever put out. And no, we don't know why Michael Bay felt the need to try and remake it either.
