1. Evil Dead II (1987)
"Dead by dawn! Dead by dawn!"
The first Evil Dead film was released in 1981 by director Sam Raimi and was an instant hit. A sequel was inevitable — however, the property suffered all kinds of problems as it was handed around to various production companies. By all standards, Evil Dead II shouldn’t have even been made.
Not only was made and not only was it good, it’s arguably better than the first Evil Dead. Raimi’s sequel and cult-classic saw Bruce Campbell really come into the role of Ash, as he’s fighting off the evil deadites in this haunted cabin from hell. The movie is enjoyable and re-watchable to no end, especially the infamous deer laughing scene, while managing to be creepy and unsettling at the same time. And the follow up's — Army of Darkness (1992) and Showtime's Ash vs Evil Dead (2015 - Present) — manage to pretty entertaining as well.
That’ll do it for our list on horror movie sequels. Hopefully this helps get you in the Halloween spirit and gives you some movies to watch over the coming season. Let us know in the comments what you agree and disagree with. What are your favorite horror movie sequels? What are your least favorite — the ones you absolutely can’t stand and won’t acknowledge?
