Washed up '80s pop star, Alex Fletcher (Grant), is given the opportunity to write a song for a popular teen idol. However, while Alex is good with melodies, he can’t write lyrics. Lucky for him, he meets younger woman Sophie Fisher (Barrymore) who has a way with words. As they work together, Alex begins to fall for Sophie, but there is something in her past that she continues to hide.
