3. His loyalty
In season two, Vary asked Tyrion if he trusted the untested Pod, and he said that he did. That may have been the beginnings of paying attention to who Pod was. Getting the trust from Varys takes some doing. Leaving Tyrion in the jail cell was not what Pod would have chosen to do, but both men knew that he would be killed or possibly tortured if he was to stay in King’s Landing. Tyrion’s parting words were, “There has never lived a more loyal squire” and had Jamie gift him with Tyrion’s battle axe from Blackwater before sending him off with Brienne.
