1. The Sound of Music
What's not to love about The Sound of Music? Based on the classic Broadway musical, Robert Wise's film tells the delightful story of Maria, a young Austrian woman (Julie Andrews) studying to be a nun who becomes governess to a large family of seven. She instantly falls in love with the children, stitching them clothing, teaching them to sing and generally straying from the uptight parenting style of their father (Christopher Plummer). Though Maria is not actually a mother herself, it's still a film very much about maternal bonds and considering April marks the film's 51st anniversary, there's no better time to give it another watch and share the joy with Mom.
