Martin was an enabler, in that he made sure that the group’s often bizarre ideas came true. When the group recorded “Rain,” which was only a B-side, John Lennon wanted to hear things backwards and Martin made it happen. Backwards instruments can also be heard on “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
