7. Kicking “Only A Northern Song” off Sgt. Pepper’s
“Only A Northern Song” was originally George Harrison’s contribution to Sgt. Pepper’s. Martin really didn’t like the song and it’s easy to see why. It’s a nasty attack on the Northern Songs publisher. Since George wasn’t going to go without a song, he ended up offering up “Within You Without You,” the meditative, long track that opens side two. “Only A Northern Song” got kicked off the album, only surfacing in Yellow Submarine.
