Rooney Mara, Carol
Even though Carol is told almost entirely from her perspective, The Weinstein Company decided to run Rooney Mara as supporting instead of lead so she wouldn’t have to compete against co-star Cate Blanchett. Other awards shows saw through the fraud (including the Golden Globes!), but the Academy took the bait.
