John Lennon
In 1957, John Lennon invited Paul McCartney to join his music group that went on to be known as the Beatles, one of the most famous and successful rock & roll groups to have come out of Liverpool, England.
One major influencer of Lennon to enter into music was Elvis Presley and his eruption into the world of rock.
In 1964, the rock group started a crazed movement of British rock called the “British Invasion” into the United States through their appearance on the ever popular television show, The Ed Sullivan Show.
After a long and successful career with popular hits such as Yellow Submarine and the album The White Album, Lennon started his solo career releasing his album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.
Shortly after Lennon’s release of his final album Double Fantasy, he was shot several times by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman. Chapman’s idolism of Lennon was renounced after Lennon had made a statement to the press saying, “We’re more popular than Jesus Christ now,” according to CrimeAndInvestigation.co.uk.
Lennon died on December 8, 1980, at the New York City’s Roosevelt Hospital due to complications.
Lennon has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame according to John Lennon’s biography at Biography.com.
