Carol is left at Cannes
Todd Haynes’ Carol just lost steam. While both Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett were nominated and the film scored some below-the-line nods, it failed to get a Best Picture nomination and Haynes was left out of the Best Director field. The film might have just been too artsy to connect with the Academy as a whole, which is sad, because it’s a great film.
