Goosebumps. I get goosebumps ... every. single. time. Every time Luke and Leia make that swing, it feels like the whole balance of the world changes. At that one moment, Star Wars becomes something more than just a little swashblucker/Western in space. As John Williams’ score reaches new heights, our two heroes (who we don’t know are siblings at this point) make a romantic swing across a chasm of death. Two little characters fighting the biggest force the galaxy has ever known and surviving.
That’s what makes Star Wars when it’s at its best. Not the lightsabers, not the cool effects, not the toys we buy after seeing the movie and not the two-minute trailers we can’t wait to see. Star Wars is about fighting for what you believe in against insurmountable odds.
