Top 10 horror films of 2015

10. Sinister 2

Sinister seemed like an impossible movie to make a sequel for. After all, the original is so heavily focused on the mystery of Bagul, so how can a followup be worthwhile when we already understand the nature of the monster? Wouldn’t Sinister 2 fall victim to needless repetition or over explanation? Shockingly, C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson managed to craft an installment that feels like a necessary extension of the first movie with Sinister 2, and one that doesn’t show Mr. Boogie so often that he isn’t scary anymore. This time around, we get to focus on the children's perspective, a small change that flips the rules of this universe on their head and provides some insight into our unanswered questions. It isn’t nearly as bleak or frightening as the original, and there’s much more of a reliance on jump scares than last time, but Sinister 2 is still way better than it had any right to be and one of those rare horror sequels that doesn’t ruin the franchise's legacy. That 14 perent score on Rotten Tomatoes is baffling.
