7. Shanice Williams, The Wiz Live!

Williams is a total newcomer who made her debut in one of the biggest ways possible: as Dorothy in NBC's much-buzzed about re-imagined, live version of the iconic The Wizard of Oz."  The live television production was based most closely on the 1970s Broadway musical adaptation of the story, titled The Wiz, and the subsequent movie version of the play.  It served as NBC's follow up to their live holiday season productions of The Sound of Music (2013), starring Carrie Underwood, and Peter Pan (2014), starring Allison Williams.

Shanice Williams managed to hold her own and shine as the central character in a production packed with bonafide stars — i.e. Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah and Ne-Yo — and fan-favorites from hit shows — i.e. Glee's Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones) and Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes). Williams' voice was phenomenal, her energy was infectious. She made people take notice, and according to most of the Twitterverse, the buzz about her was positive so it's safe to say Williams isn't likely to be a one-hit wonder.

What's next: This remains to be seen.
