CBGB is reopening... at the Newark Airport?!?

During the 1970s, the famous nightclub CBGB was where musicians went to hone their craft. In 2016, it will be where travelers at Newark Airport go to get an overpriced cheeseburger.

Yes, for some reason, the company that currently owns the name “CBGB” has decided that the Newark Airport is the place to reopen the famous New York club. Radio DJ Nicky Steidel noticed the famous CBGB logo in the airport over the weekend.

Steidel also shared a picture of the menu, which doesn’t include any tribute to the famous chili that was served at the original CBGB. Instead, it’s filled with the usual items found at any casual dining restaurant chain, from a $12 classic cheeseburger to an $11.50 wedge salad.

According to Gothamist, this restaurant was actually first reported on in a November 2014 Grub Street story on new restaurants at the Newark Airport.

The CBGB trademark is now owned to a holding company, which is opening the restaurant. It will likely start serving customers next year, but don’t expect Blondie to show up to open it.
