Carrie Fisher has never been one to mince words and, even with a new Star Wars movie on the way, she isn’t stopping. She recently called it “messed up” that Disney wanted her to lose weight before she joined The Force Awakens to play Princess Leia for the first time in over 30 years.
“They don’t want to hire all of me – only about three-quarters! Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing,” Fisher said in an interview with Good Housekeeping U.K. this week. “I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”
Fisher did say that she lost the weight by exercising and eating healthy. She said that exercising isn’t a problem for her, but eating healthy is.
“It’s easier for me to add an activity than to deny myself something,” she said. “When I do lose the weight I don’t like that it makes me feel good about myself. It’s not who I am. My problem is they talk to me like an actress but I hear them like a writer.”
Fisher also called treading beauty like an accomplishment “insane” in Hollywood. Instead of people asking you how you are, people say “Oh you look good” in Los Angeles, she noted.
Fisher, 59, has been spotted in trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Leia is going to be a General in the new film.
The Force Awakens opens on Dec. 18.
