8. Clock Cleaners, 1937
By the late 1930s, Mickey began slipping into the background, even in his own shorts. Donald Duck and Goofy might have some of the funniest bits in Clock Cleaners, but it’s a wonderful example of incredible Disney animation. The shorts were usually where Disney tried out ideas that would be implemented in features. Many of the films made around the time of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are particularly fascinating in this way, because we see much of the style that made it into the film developing. Even in the Mickey shorts, Disney animation was getting better.
