10. Steamboat Willie, 1928
I might as well put in a place for Steamboat Willie. Disney and Iwerks had actually made Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho before, but those shorts never got distribution. Disney still made Steamboat Willie, the third film with Mickey, and believed that the only way Mickey would make an impact was if he could be heard. Even though there were some experiments with sound and cartoons before, Steamboat Willie became a sensation right away.
