Paramount Animation sets release date for ‘Spongebob Squarepants 3,’ delays ‘Monster Trucks’

Does Paramount ever actually plan on releasing Monster Trucks? It doesn’t look like it because the studio delayed the movie again. A third Spongebob Squarepants movie has also been scheduled.

What exactly Monster Trucks is supposed to be is still a mystery. The live action/animation hybrid was once supposed to open in 2015 before getting delayed to March 2016. Now, Paramount won’t release the film until Jan. 13, 2017.

Monster Trucks was directed by Chris Wedge (Epic) and features the voices of Jane Levy, Thomas Lennon, Rob Lowe and Amy Ryan.

Spongebob Squarepants 3 will hit theaters on Feb. 8, 2019. The film will follow the success of The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, which grossed $315.9 million worldwide on a $74 million budget.

Instead of Monster Trucks, Paramount Animations’ March 2016 release will be The Little Prince. That film will hit theaters on March 18 and was directed by Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda), reports Variety. The voice cast includes Benicio del Toro, Albert BRooks, Marion Cotillard, Jeff Bridges and Paul Rudd.

Paramount also scheduled another animated film, Amusement Park, for March 22, 2019. Dylan Brown, a former Pixar supervising animator, directs that film.

Sherlock Gnomes, a sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet, will open on Jan. 12, 2018.

The last release date Paramount announced was for an untitled Tina Fey comedy, which will open on March 4, 2016. The project is listed as Fun House on IMDb, but it looks like Paramount isn’t so sure of that title.
