5x06 The Bear and the Bow
Merlin, Charming, Hook, and Belle free Lancelot from Arthur’s dungeon, and in the process free Merida as well. Merida feels thankful no doubt, but not obliged. Instead, she kidnaps Belle and talks her in to helping her find and rescue her brothers. Interestingly, Belle helps Merida find and rescue herself, or belief in herself, which of course causes the other tribes to regain faith in her as well.
In Storybrooke, Rumple attempts to run away with Belle, which he believes is the only way to keep her safe from Emma, but Belle refuses to run away. Emma forces Merida to drink the bear potion to put Rumple in a position of having to save Belle, turning him into a hero. It worked.
Knowing Emma will stop at nothing to get what she wants, he returns Merida to her and pulls Excalibur from the stone for her, but not without making a deal first. Then he points out to her that making him a hero was possibly her biggest mistake and may be her undoing. In a way, I hope so.
