Jason Momoa’s star has continued to rise and he just landed another big gig. He will star in Frontier, a Canadian drama that will have a home on Netflix in the U.S.
The series will debut on Discovery Canada, but will be available around the world on Netflix next year, reports Variety. Canadian Netflix users won’t have access to stream the series until 2018, though.
Frontier is set during the late 1700s, when the North American fur trade was big business. Focusing on a wide range of characters, it will center on the troubled relationships between Native Americans and Europeans. Momoa was cast as Declan Harp, a ruthless trader who is out for revenge.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the series was created by Peter Blackie and Rob Blackie (Republic of Doyle). Brad Peyton, who directed the successful blockbuster San Andreas, will direct. Executive producers include Jeff Fierson, Peyton, Alex Patrick and John Vatcher.
Frontier is a Take The Shot Productions and Factor Backwards production with Discovery. Netflix is also onboard as a producer.
Momoa shot to fame for his performance on the first season of Game of Thrones and will make his debut as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also starred in The Red Road, which ran for two seasons on SundanceTV.
