‘iZombie’ recap episode 205: ‘Love & Basketball’

Ravi is examining a body and one of Blaine’s workers comes in with a bottle of tainted Utopium. He tells him Blaine will be looking for the cure soon.

Liv is cutting up veggies in the kitchen when Gilda comes in. Liv asks her what happened to the hot guy at work and Gilda says they slept together. Gilda then asks Liv about her love life and Liv tells her about making out with Major a few nights ago. Gilda is upset and stabs her with a vegetable skewer, making it look like an accident. When Liv leaves the room to take care of it, Gilda soaks up a drop of blood on a napkin and tucks it in her shirt.

Ravi shows the bottle of tainted U to Liv. She asks him how many zombie cures they can get out of it. He says they need to do rigorous testing first.

Clive comes in and asks Liv about Funders Keepers. She tells him it’s a crowd funding site. Mike was using the site to raise money to take his team to state nationals basketball camp. The first three weeks, Mike raised less than $1,000, but then he received a single pledge on the day he died that put him over the top.

Major approaches a man at a café to see if he’s a zombie. He is. Major then sees the man’s son run up to him for a hug. He can’t kill him.

Clive tries to find out where Mike’s large donation came from, but it’s untraceable. The FBI agent asks him why he got pulled off the Meat Cute case. He says his story didn’t have any police heroism headlines. The agent tells him that the missing astronaut’s hair was found in a sink drain at Meat Cute.

Clive gets a call that one of the people in the pictures he showed Liv has turned up dead. He asks Liv and Ravi to come to Tacoma with him. Ravi reluctantly agrees because he has a feud with the medical examiner there. They both applied for examiner job in Seattle, which Ravi won. The Tacoma examiner, Ian, is bitter.

Levins’s body was found in a concrete foundation of a construction site with a hammer on him. Ian thinks he was working on the site, hit his head and fell. Ravi says Levins was murdered by blunt force trauma. Clive mentions Levins’s lengthy criminal record as a collections enforcer for bookmaking operations, where he would’ve used a hammer as a weapon. Ravi feels vindicated.

Clive takes Liv aside and tells her that Levins was seen entering Mike’s building and going to the fourteenth floor, but not leaving. There was only one other person on that floor before the tapes were turned off. Clive takes Liv to talk to the man.

Mr. Thrunk says he doesn’t recognize Levins’s picture. Clive asks if everyone has their own code for the copier. Thrunk says they do.

Clive and Liv go to Terry Cole’s office, who appears to be a big sports fan by the memorabilia in his office. His copier code was logged the night Mike was killed. Clive asks if he ever does any gambling. He denies knowing Levins, but Liv has a vision of Cole having a breakdown in the lobby over a college team’s loss. Clive notices a baseball bat in Cole’s office. It smells like bleach. Clive then finds blood on the blinds.

Ravi mixes tainted Utopium with Max Rager to turn his rats into zombies for testing. Blaine shows up and asks about the cure. Ravi says he needs to do testing first. Ravi finds Gabriel injecting himself with the Max Rager mixture. It kills Gabriel almost instantly. Ravi tells Blaine that it means the tainted Utopium he gave him isn’t even close to the right formula. Blaine says on the bright side, Ravi has discovered an instant zombie killer. Ravi realizes what that could mean in the wrong hands and then he and Blaine fight for the bottle. Ravi destroys the bottle so Blaine can't use it.

Clive accuses Cole of killing Levins and trying to dispose of the body. Cole told Mike if he shut down the security cameras, he would donate the rest of the money for Mike’s team fundraiser. Clive says Cole tore out the visitor page of the log and then killed Mike. Cole says there’s a man at their firm who fixes messes like this. He told Cole to wipe down the bat with bleach and then to bribe Mike to turn off the cameras. They stuffed Levins into a janitor’s cart and brought it to the lobby, and then the fixer killed Mike. Cole says he didn’t know that was part of the plan. Clive realizes the fixer is Thrunk.

Major comes to Rita saying he checked off eight potentials that week and none of them were zombies. He also tells her they shouldn’t see each other anymore. She says they’ll play it by ear and then informs him that there’s probabilities attached to each name on Major’s list. She says the potential for none of the eight to be zombies is very low. Major walks out of her office.

Major flushes his last dose of Utopium and shaves. When he comes downstairs, Liv is there. He tells her he doesn’t want to be friends; he wants them to be a couple again. He doesn’t care about the risks.

Clive leaves a message for Liv saying that they caught Thrunk and took him into custody. When he hangs up, Suzuki’s widow comes in. Clive tries to apologize, but she tells him there’s no need; that her husband may have been suicidal. She gives Clive a container she found in the freezer and leaves. Clive opens it to find a section of human brain.
