Fox sets return dates for ‘American Idol,’ ‘New Girl’

Fox has set its schedule for the winter, meaning that we finally know when the last season of American Idol will start. The return of New Girl has also been scheduled.

The network’s midseason kicks off on Sunday, Jan. 3 when Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life and the animated Bordertown join the Sunday night line-up. Cooper will air at 8:30 p.m. after The Simpsons and stars Jack Cutmore-sCott in the title role. Bordertown will start at 9:30 p.m. after Family Guy.

Adding these two shows to Sundays means that Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Last Man On Earth will have to be moved somewhere. Nine-Nine has been pushed to Tuesdays and will return on Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. Last Man’s return date wasn’t set, which isn’t good news for fans of the show.

New Girl will be back on Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. Grandfathered will air at 8:30 p.m., with The Grinder airing at 9:30 p.m. after Nine-Nine.

American Idol is getting a two-night final season premiere, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 6 and Thursday, Jan. 7. Both episodes will run two hours, although the following Wednesday episode will only run an hour.

Second Chance, which was formerly known as Frankenstein and Lookinglass, will debut on Wednesday, Jan. 13 after Idol.

Gordon Ramsay Night has been moved to Fridays, with Masterchef Junior starting on Friday, Jan. 8 with a two-hour episode. Hell’s Kitchen will return the following Friday at 9 p.m.

Lucifer has been scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. and will first be paired with The X-Files. After The X-Files is over, Gotham will return on Monday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m.

Rosewood comes back on Wednesday, March 2 at 8 p.m. and Sleepy Hollow will move to Fridays on Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. Empire will start the second half of season two on Wednesday, March 30 at 9 p.m.

In addition to Last Man, the return of Bones wasn’t scheduled either. Also, Fox said nothing about Minority Report, so you can assume that it’s officially been cancelled.
