Getting one celebrity at your surprise wedding is cool, but getting two - especially when those two are Carrie Brownstein and Amy Poehler - brings your wedding to another level of coolness.
Poehler and Brownstein were at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church for a book reading event to promote Brownstein’s Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl: A Memoir. During the Q&A session, one couple asked if they could be married right then and there.
“The couple told Carrie they’d heard from a friend that she was an ordained minister,” a witness told Us Weekly. “They asked if they could get married on the spot, as they’d come prepared with their marriage license.”
Brownstein said that she had only become an ordained minister to officiate a friends wedding, which she was prepared for. But she certainly wasn’t prepared for this. Nevertheless, Brownstein married the couple, Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez.
While Brownstein officiated the wedding, Poehler sat behind the organ and played a few notes. The ceremony lasted around 10 minutes and was captured on video by a member of the audience.
Brownstein co-stars on Portlandia with Fred Armisen and is also a member of Sleater-Kinney. She also gave a speech at the end of the ceremony, which is one the couple will certainly cherish forever.
