‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ grosses $550 million in just three days

Jurassic World took 13 days to hit $1 billion, but it looks like Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III could reach that mark in half that time. The video game developer said that the latest edition of the Call of Duty franchise grossed an astonishing $550 million in just three days worldwide.

Activision said that players are also playing the game non-stop, logging over 75 million hours worldwide over the three days.

"Call of Duty's millions of passionate fans have shown us, yet again, the strength of their commitment to this enduring franchise,” Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said today. “Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the biggest entertainment launch this year in any medium, and bigger than any theatrical opening weekend ever.”

For comparison, it took Jurassic World 11 days to hit $500 million outside the U.S. During its opening weekend, World grossed $208 million in the U.S. over three days.

Activision is launching a movie studio, starting with a Call of Duty franchise, so they are hoping that the success of the video games translates to the silver screen. Of course, Activision might need a wake-up call because movie tickets are much cheaper than a copy of Call of Duty.
