‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ recap episode 101: ‘El Jefe’

In the storeroom at work, Ash dumps out the broken bulbs. The lights go out and he hears children’s laughter. He looks around the room and sees a shelf full of dolls. He leans in for a closer look and one of them hits him in the eye and then leaps on his face. The doll bites his nose. He tries smashing flower pots into his face to dislodge her. She falls down, but kicks him in the mouth, dislodging a tooth. He throws her on the floor. She grabs a utility knife and comes at him, but Pablo smashes her with a shovel. He asks Ash again what’s going on.

Ash asks Pablo if he believes in Evil. Pablo says his uncle was a shaman who used to tell him the devil was always waiting in the shadows. Ash tells him the story of the night in the cabin with the Necronomicon when he lost his hand and his friends. He says that the evil has found him. Pablo says his uncle said a man would come who would stand up to it. He called him ‘El Jefe.’ Pablo thinks El Jefe is Ash. Ash disagrees.

Ash and Pablo see on one of the store TVs that a large sinkhole has opened up at the bar where he was parked the night before. Pablo says Ash needs to finish what he started, but Ash says let it choose someone else. Pablo says he can’t outrun evil. Ash runs for his car and takes off.

Kelly is talking to her father on Facetime. He tells her that a book her mother gave him was moved overnight and the house smelled like pancakes. He’s startled and says, “She’s here.” The camera turns and Kelly sees her dead mother come in her parents’ front door. Kelly tells Pablo that she needs to get to her dad’s. Pablo says he’ll take her. A demon starts coming through the parking lot as Kelly tries to start Pablo’s bike. Pablo hops on, starts the bike, and they take off, leaving the demon to take their boss.

Amanda goes back to the house where she killed the demons. She thinks she’s crazy until she sees a piece of Carson’s shirt hanging from the chandelier.

Pablo and Kelly pull up at Ash’s trailer. Pablo says Ash can help them. Ash says he’s getting ready to leave. He feels his broken tooth, pulls out the bottom denture and puts a new set in. Kelly says she’s leaving, but they hear something on the roof. Pablo tells Ash there’s no more running. Kelly backs up against the window and an arm reaches in and grabs her. Ash throws an ax and cuts the demon’s arm off. The demon then starts throwing the trailer around, breaking windows and denting the door. Kelly yells for it to leave them alone and everything goes quiet. Ash grabs Kelly’s belt and puts on his holster. A demon breaks in the door and Ash shoots him in the head.

Kelly wants to go save her dad, but Ash says he needs to get the translation of the book first to try to save lives. He opens a back panel in the trailer looking for his chainsaw, but finds demon Vivian. She scratches his face and knocks him down. She sees him looking at the chainsaw. She throws it away from him, knocking him across the room. She grabs a knife and stabs Pablo in the shoulder, then goes after Kelly. Vivian tries to scratch Kelly’s eyes out with her claws, and Kelly barely holds her off.

Pablo throws the chainsaw to Ash with his foot. Ash leaps forward and it attaches to his missing hand. Ash turns on the chainsaw and distracts Vivian from Kelly. Vivian dives at him and he chops her head off, covering everyone in blood. Ash tells Pablo he was right; he can’t run. Pablo says, “Good to see you, Jefe,” and asks how he feels. Ash says, “Groovy.”
