Once again, it was a third party candidate making waves; in this case, billionaire H. Ross Perot threatened to derail traditional candidates Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. But Perot blundered and picked Vice Admiral James Stockdale as his VP candidate. Stockdale was undoubtedly an American hero, but he also proved to be a disastrous public speaker. Perot's campaign lost steam down the stretch, and Clinton carried the day.
