Thank Teddy Roosevelt for this one making the list. TR electrified an otherwise relatively humdrum election with his "Bull Moose" party. In perhaps one of the most dramatic moments in campaign history, a man shot TR as he prepared to give a speech in Milwaukee. Undeterred, TR cried: "I will make this speech or die," and proceeded to do the former before a deafening crowd. Later, it was revealed that he was saved by his glasses case and thickly folded speech, which slowed the bullet's entry into his chest. Despite these heroics, Woodrow Wilson carried the day.
