Top 10 Hollywood Films of the 1950s

8. The Night of the Hunter - Charles Laughton, 1955
“Shall I tell you the little story of Right-Hand-Left-Hand -- the tale of Good and Evil?” Robert Mitchum was one of those great actors who was so great you never realized he was acting. In The Night of the Hunter, though, the legendary Charles Laughton got a performance of the ages out of him as the evil, psychotic Preacher. The film is a twisted fairy tale, told with the elegance of a D.W. Griffith silent film (and even stars Griffith’s muse, Lillian Gish).
