The long-awaited third movie in Universal’s Bridget Jones franchise finally has a release date. The movie will be coming out on Sept. 16, 2016.

Bridget Jones’s Baby will star Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in the same roles from the first two films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film is being directed Sharon Maguire, who directed Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Patrick Dempsey is joining the franchise, although Hugh Grant is leaving. It’s not clear what role the former Grey’s Anatomy star will have.
TheWrap reports that the new film is being produced by Working Title. Universal, Miramax and StudioCanal are co-financing.
The franchise is based on the character created by Helen Fielding and includes 2001’s Diary and 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Baby is not expected to be based on Fielding’s third novel, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
The new film will be Zellwegger's first film since 2010's My Own Love Song. She's also finishing up The Whole Truth and is attached to Same Kind Of Different As Me.
