Dark Swan
Emma enters her basement with Happy’s axe, and as she lifts to swing it at the rock holding Excalibur, Rumple appears to taunt her. He tells her that it won’t work. Nothing can cut through magic, except maybe a kiss. He asks her if she’s thought of kissing it. She replies with a swift swing of the axe, but as soon as the blade hits the rock, it flies off. Rumple tells her she needs a hero to draw the sword.
Her next move is to meet up with Hook, but why isn’t exactly clear. He doesn’t appear to be the type of hero needed to draw Excalibur from the stone. She tries to gain his trust, but to no avail. He points out that the Emma he fell in love with didn’t play games, and is offended when she suggests they continue their relationship. When she brings up Belle and Gold, he tells her it’s not a good example. She attempts to explain how she’s a better person now because she’s not afraid anymore, and that Gold was a coward who groveled on Hook’s ship and didn’t even find true love until after he was the Dark One. It seemed like such a good argument the first go around, but on a second run through, you’ll notice that this leads straight into his recounting of his meeting with Rumple where he held a sword up to him.

She gets up and scoots behind him to hold the sword, talking about how she taught him how to fight in the alternate universe. He pulls away, leaving the sword in her hand. He asks her what she wants. She says all she wants is his trust, but really she already got what she came for, the sword. She asks him if he loves her and he chokingly replies that he loved her. He then asks her if he should steer home or swim home at which point she vanishes.

We next see her in the final scene. She has taken Gold captive, and used the sword from Hook’s ship, an object that touched Gold before he was the Dark One, to revive him. As he wakes, he recognizes that she’s the new Dark One. She acknowledges that, and that he is no longer dark, but neither is he light. He’s a blank slate. She tells him that she will make him into a hero, and then she has a job for him to do. Obviously, to pull Excalibur, but she doesn’t clarify that.
